I have spent many hours reading the articles about a revolution that should occur in the Colonies. I appeal to your true common sense. The following questions will be discussed in this article ( and future articles) and a common sense answer will show just how spurious the rebel logic has become.
Taxation without representation? Every citizen of the British Empire has virtual representation. We are no different than the whole of the British Empire. The monarchy has lasted for hundreds of years proving the just nature of its governance. A citizen of the British Empire, living in England, pays tax of 26 shillings a year. We as colonists pay an average of 1 shilling a year. Why should we complain? Has any person who advocates a rebellion against the Crown guaranteed that our taxes would be less should we form our own country? I dare say this is a deep dark secret that the conspirators have failed to reveal to the citizens of the colonies. Perhaps they wish to control the Colonist with a heavier hand than our dear King George.
To complete this thought, the military might that we now have in the Colonies has been paid for by the Crown. We called upon The Crown to save us from the French and the marauding Indians during the Seven Years War. Could we have subdued this aggression without the might of England? The expense incurred by the Crown has left our dear England with debt. Should we not pay our fair share to remain free from the French Monarchy, the savage Indians, and the overbearing influence of the Papacy?
I appeal to you to compose your emotions and to not be lead astray by a small group of rebels who say they have your best interests a heart but actual may be using "Trojan Horse" tactics to control your very mind, body, and political future. I dare say we must ask many more questions of these rebel conspirators before we subject our sons to the violence of civil war in the Great Empire of our Crown. The overwhelming majority of our fellow Colonial Citizens, when asked in private, will attest to their desire to remain loyal to the Crown.
