Many people mistakenly think the photographs in Reverend Hillard's book comprise the entirety of photos of Revolutionary War veterans. But amazingly, they still turn up occasionally. In recent years, a circa 1850 daguerrotype of New Hampshire Captain George Fishley was discovered, and can be seen at:
Joe Bauman, a retired reporter for the Deseret Morning News in Salt Lake City, owns a daguerreotype of Daniel Spencer, who, like Lemuel Cook, was a member of Sheldon's Light Dragoons. He is writing a book about the Revolutionary War servicemen whose daguerreotypes he owns -- he has six definitely, and one other whose ID is not as well established. It is not known whether the good reverend Hillard ever knew that the last veteran of the Revolution was none of the men in his book.
