Many people mistakenly think the photographs in Reverend Hillard's book comprise the entirety of photos of Revolutionary War veterans. But amazingly, they still turn up occasionally. In recent years, a circa 1850 daguerrotype of New Hampshire Captain George Fishley was discovered, and can be seen at:

Joe Bauman, a retired reporter for the Deseret Morning News in Salt Lake City, owns a daguerreotype of Daniel Spencer, who, like Lemuel Cook, was a member of Sheldon's Light Dragoons. He is writing a book about the Revolutionary War servicemen whose daguerreotypes he owns -- he has six definitely, and one other whose ID is not as well established. The Spencer daguerrotype, and the veteran's story, is at:

It is not known whether the good reverend Hillard ever knew that the last veteran of the Revolution was none of the men in his book.
